About Gloria

Sr Violin/ Viola/ Flute

Gloria Mui Man Sze was born in Hong Kong  and currently resides in Calgary, Canada.

She is studying a Master of Music (MMus) at the University of Calgary, enrolled in a composition concentration. She studied composition under the guidance of
Prof. Laurie Radford and Prof. Allan Gordon Bell. Mui graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in
Music (Honours) at Hong Kong Baptist University in 2022, majoring in violin and music
composition, under guidance of Prof Christopher J. Keyes, Dr. Camilo Mendez, Dr. Eugene Birman, Dr. Matthew W. Schreibeis, and Dr. Maria KALLIONPÄÄ.

Mui studied in violin at an early age, followed by Mr. Fan Ting (Music Director and Chief
Conductor of the Saigon Philharmonic Orchestra). Currently, she plays violin with the University of Calgary Orchestra.

As a composer, she enjoys the compositional process because it allows her to present her inner world through music creation, especially acoustic music for different ensembles and solo instruments.

In 2021, her work Zvukova Bitka was selected by LIGETI QUARTET for the program The
Workout! scheme for 100 pieces by 100 composers. In 2022, Twiddle QuaD got the 2nd
prize in The Inaugural NC Wong Young Composers Award. These experiences have
enriched her compositional language and inspired her to produce new works and seek
new collaborations opportunities.

She has been tutoring violin and music theory since 2007 in both Hong Kong and Canada, and is excited to share her experiences with her students.
